200/366
I had some ideas for a picture to commemorate the arbitrary round number of 200 pictures, but when I saw this scene from the 5th floor of the building where I work this evening I immediately ran to get my camera and all my other ideas went out the window. We finally had a torrential downpour that cooled things down considerably, and just after the storm passed I was rewarded with this scene.
Still, to commemorate Day 200, I thought some reflection on the past 200 days would be appropriate. So here are some stats on my pictures:
1) By far my most used lens for this project are my 50mm prime (100 pictures exactly) and my 28mm prime (71 pictures), with only a handful of pictures with each of my other lenses (9 with my 10-22mm, 10 with my 17-85mm, 7 with 70-300mm, and 3 with a 17-55mm f/2.8 I borrowed from my brother).
2) I have taken pictures in 18 cities in 5 countries (France - 4, Ireland - 6, Italy - 8, Vatican City - 1, and United States - 181).
3) Not surprisingly, most of my pictures are taken near either my home or my work: 74 at home, 18 in my neighborhood, and 39 around where I work. Another 34 are in Boston and the inner suburbs, with only 9 in more distant parts of Massachusetts and 7 from out of state.
4) I mostly post color pictures, but 18 of my shots have been black and white (plus possibly a few more I forgot to tag as such). In addition, 5 of my shots have been HDR (but of the naturalistic kind), and 5 have been triptychs or collages of some kind.
5) 42 of my shots have people in them; of those, 7 are selfies, 25 are of my son, 6 are of other family members, and 4 have strangers in them (although none of those are portraits, all are candid shots usually from a distance).
6) Besides people, I've shot a lot of buildings (53, 6 of which are pictures of Memorial Hall at Harvard University), food (51, 11 of which are of booze of some kind), and plants (17), but I've also taken 9 pictures of sculptures, 4 pictures of animals, 7 pictures of fences (but no benches), and 3 pictures of my computer.
7) I mostly shoot in landscape orientation (149 shots); of the remainder, 32 are portrait and 19 are square.
8) The widest aperture I've shot at is f/1.8 (18 photos); the narrowest is f/22 (3 photos); the most common is f/3.5 (20 photos, but there are lots with 10-20 photos).
9) I've taken 10 shots with a shutter speed slower than 1 second, and 14 shots with a shutter speed faster than 1/1000 second.
10) I have learned more in the past 200 days about photography than in the entire previous four years I've owned a DSLR. Thanks, everybody, for sharing the journey with me and teaching me more than I ever expected to learn. No time for commenting tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow to catch up. Onto the final 166 days!
