My family has had land in Nantucket, a small island off the coast of Massachusetts, since the late 1800s. My great-great grandfather (a schoolteacher in Medford) bought some land on the island well before it became a trendy vacation resort, and somewhat miraculously the land has remained in the family for the past 100 years. Although the influx of the rich and the famous, and the proliferation of large manisons that now surround our little summer house have changed the character of the island a lot in the past 30 years, I still have many fond memories of summers spent here in my youth and have managed to go for at least a weekend every summer of my life. This year, of course, was no exception.
Our first day on the island was rather gray and cloudly, but that is no deterant to a day at the beach, especially when the beach is only a 5 minute walk away. Isaac had a great time collecting shells and playing in the sand, as evidenced by the picture in comments, and we all enjoyed swimming and relaxing and reading.
