This is my sister Laura, a farmer who runs First Root Farm in Concord, MA, which operates a summer vegetable CSA. As she puts it, "CSA stands for community supported agriculture, and that is exactly what it is – a unique partnership between farmers and their local communities. As a CSA member, you pay up front for a season’s worth of vegetables, providing the farmer with much-needed capitol for seeds and equipment in the off-season. In exchange, you receive a weekly share of the harvest during the growing season." Today was the first pickup for the season - chard, garlic scapes, kohlrabi, arugula, radishes, broccoli, lettuce, and bok choy. Yum!
