For the past several years, we have made and canned a big batch of applesauce every fall to eat over the course of the next year. It is both really easy and way better/cheaper than the store bought stuff, and with good apples it is nicely sweet without any added sugar. This year was no exception. I usually also make a few jars of apple butter (basically sweeted, spiced, and thickened apple sauce) as well. This is the end result: the apple butter is the darker jars on either side of the applesauce in the middle.
